Welcome to Common Water

Common Water is a small part of a big movement to bring Americans together. As our nation becomes ever more divided, we are a group of fisherfolk who believe that time spent fishing with each other transcends political differences.

We work to create events where anglers (and novice anglers) of all ideologies come together to fish, eat, learn and most of all to talk with one another. As cross-partisan fellowship fades in the halls of our governments and in the town square, our great hope is to revitalize respect for our differences on the banks of a river, the shores of lake or the deck of a boat -- and preferably with a big one on the other end of our line.

While we seek to listen and keep an open mind to what others have to say, the success of our work, and other bridging initiatives, is non-negotiable. It is not an overstatement to say that central to the success of the United States' "great experiment" is the recognition that what unites us is greater than what divides us.

Common Water Is...

  • Diverse and inclusive
  • Respectful
  • Part of the solution
  • A place for anglers to come together
  • Excited by different perspectives
  • A non-partisan advocate for fishing and places we fish
  • Eager to get new anglers out on the water, learning about the sport side-by-side with experienced anglers
  • Optimistic that our best days as individuals and as a nation lie ahead

Common Water Is Not...

  • Partisan
  • Judgmental
  • An amplifier for divisive speech
  • A forum for political lobbying or fundraising
  • Close-minded
  • An environmental lobbying group
  • A snob about what fishing tackle you use or what fish you fish for
  • Giving up on American democracy, ever
